In July 2001, a maritime disaster occurred in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
My mother and I were among fifteen passengers from a large cruise ship who took a day excursion to a rock formation located at the tip of the Baja Peninsula called Los Arcos.
The excursion boat we were in overturned in rough water around the rocks. Three people, including my mother, died and the remaining passengers were seriously injured.

During the investigation of the accident in Cabo San Lucas, it was learned that the area where this accident occurred was well known as an extremely dangerous area when ocean swells come out of the southern seas.
The investigation also showed that a large southern swell hit Cabo San Lucas on the day of the accident and there was a very significant swell affecting the rock formation when our small craft capsized.
No law existed at the time, or now, for me to pursue a legal claim for my mother’s death in international waters.
